University at Buffalo Overview
University Honors College
At the heart of every great university are talented and ambitious undergraduate students. As one of
the nation's leading public research universities, the University at Buffalo has a proud tradition
of fostering a learning environment which supports such talent and ambition. Nowhere is that
tradition more evident than in UB's University Honors College.
UB's Honors College is one of the most comprehensive and academically-rich institutions of its kind
in the country. The college's strength lies in its rigorous and distinctive course curriculum,
which has been developed to prepare students to become scholars of the first order in an
increasingly interconnected global society. While this curriculum is rigorous and distinctive, it
is also flexible, allowing students to explore a wide range of enhanced academic experiences,
including independent study, undergraduate research, internships, graduate coursework, teaching,
study abroad, and more.
Our Honors Scholars benefit from the best that a large research university has to offer and from
the personal attention you'd expect at an elite small college. Whether it is help with developing
an individualized course of study, advisement toward applying to the nation's leading graduate
programs, or assistance with applying for national and international scholarships and fellowships,
Honors Scholars receive the expert guidance they need to achieve their goals. Honors Scholars also
enjoy an array of exclusive benefits, including faculty mentors, priority course registration,
preferred on-campus housing, special evenings with faculty, and more.
Students are invited to participate in the Honors College based on a review of academic credentials
at the time of admission to the university. Honors Scholars may also benefit from a range of merit-
based scholarships, which, for our top academically talented students, could cover the entire cost
of undergraduate education at UB, including tuition, room and board, fees, and books.
