Valparaiso University Overview

Valparaiso University's honors college-Christ College-is a place where talented and motivated
learners in every field of study find personal attention and inspiration within a unique and vibrant
academic community.

Christ College offers the very best in honors higher education in an environment where faith
and learning are cherished, and where interdisciplinary education fosters independent critical
thinking, builds vital collaborative skills, and nurtures such virtues as charity, humility, and
courage.

Christ College students are simultaneously enrolled in one of Valparaiso's four other undergraduate
colleges-Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Nursing, Business-and more than 70 majors and programs
offered at Valparaiso. Together, our students and faculty create a genuine community of learners who
believe in honoring intellect, enlivening faith, and engaging the world. Christ College faculty is
among Valparaiso University's most accomplished and highly regarded teacher-scholars. Known for
excellence in the classroom as well as in their academic fields, these professors especially enjoy
working with honors students.

Christ College first-year students participate in a unique year-long program of interdisciplinary
study in the humanities and social sciences including each student's choice from among seven
different topics of study in the final spring quarter. An Explore Chicago experience, a creative
drama/music workshop and production, debate activities, close relationships with faculty, mentoring
by upper-class students, and a range of social events mark the program's innovative quality.
Sophomore through senior years honors students take Christ College seminars on a wide variety of
exciting, interdisciplinary topics not offered in traditional departments, such as "Love and
Friendship," "The Scientific Endeavor," "What Makes a Life Significant," and "Children, Families,
and Faith."

Christ College seniors take a 1-credit course in which they reflect on the experiences of their
lives through college, and refine their plans for the future. In addition to assistance with
practical assignments in résumé preparation and interviewing skills, graduate school and other
applications, and letters of recommendation, "Senior Colloq" helps students think deeply about
vocation as it pertains to work, family, friendships, spiritual life, and community. Christ College
seniors graduate with commencement distinctions and go on to exceptional jobs and top-tier graduate
and professional programs, prepared to pursue fulfilling lives and careers. CC funds student
participation in the national Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) and other prestigious
conferences. CC supports special international travel seminars and other opportunities for study
abroad, for example: Schweitzer Healthcare Travel Fellowships fund CC pre-medical art sand nursing
students for service travel to Nicaragua and Costa Rica each spring. Nearly fifty percent of Christ
College students spend a semester at one of Valparaiso's international study programs, or in urban
study semesters in Washington, DC, or Chicago.

Christ College's home in the heart of campus, Mueller Hall, offers attractive seminar-style
classrooms, wireless environment and teaching technologies, convenient honors faculty and
dean's offices, comfortable study and social spaces, fireplace seating, and an open air courtyard.
